PERSONALIZE YOUR FRAME

Handmade fine art gelatin print is something unique which requires special care in the presentation.

Customization is an important part of the presentation of the artwork, and the aesthetics of the print can be further enhanced by a careful choice of passepartout and wooden frame, on the other hand, these details can help not only our eye to better perceive the artwork, but in addition, this finalization can be done by considering factors that only the collector knows, such as the environment where the artwork will be placed, or what other artwork will be nearby.

For these reasons, each print can be customized by choosing from three different types of Passepartout.

THE PASSEPARTOUT

What is it and what is it for?

The passepartout is a cardboard backing that adheres to the print and it frames the visible area of the artwork.

It has two main functions: To create a thickness between the print and the glass of a wood frame and to keep the print always planar, in other words, flat.

Fine art passepartouts must meet specific requirements, the most important of which is undoubtedly not to contaminate, with their treatment, the print sheet.

For this reason, they must be acid release-proof, more commonly called acid-free.

The Passepartout consists of one or two parts. A single cardboard if it has only the front, that is, the frame, two parts, if there is also a back.

Passepartouts with a back are called "folding" or "book-like," as the two parts are joined together with an adhesive tape (also acid-free) so as to facilitate the work of finishing the print.

Each print, once flattened, is then manually framed and associated with its passepartout using special adhesive triangles.

Passepartout: Three different essences of color and workmanship

  • Natural Museum 2.7 mm

This passepartout has a natural white color, that is, with a hint of yellow, but not to be confused with ivory or the color cream. It is the one I recommend most often.

  • White Museum 1.6 mm

This passepartout has a pure white color. It is perfect if you want to enhance the contrast of a pure black and white modern print.

  • Black conservation core 2 mm

This passepartout has a black color, even internally. Ideal for giving uniformity to some low-light prints.
